It’s the day after what proved to be nothing like our typical Thanksgiving meal and again…after scones and coffee, a shower, and a load of laundry and done dishes, my wife decided to wrestle with Best Buy to order a new laptop. During the time she managed to order it through password hassles, crashes (her swearing in the background at the kitchen table my morning music), I saw a recipe on Flipbook from Bon Appetit for Salted Pistachio Brittle and went to town.

Sugar, corn syrup, salt, and a few tablespoons of water. A cup of raw pistachios. Candy thermometer. A bit of baking soda. Booosh!

Took ten minutes.

The more I cook and the more the mysteries of good cuisine are revealed, the deeper I want to delve into it all. Ten minutes. JEEZIS. I am also amazed to realize that the most arcane ingredient…raw pistachios…I had on hand in my pantry. How did this happen? How did I go from a comic geek to also being a cooking geek?

(PS: I ended up eating almost all of this yesterday–it was so good!)
