After a long day walking through downtown Berkeley and in the Elmwood District, enjoying an absolutely beautiful, sunny day, we got home and the call of the liquor cabinet beckoned. I had bought some Fee’s Chocolate Bitters as well as some cheap Hiram Walker Creme de Cacao and it was time to go to work.

The Cocktail With No Name

– 1 oz mango-infused grain alcohol (you might try pear-infused vodka or some other fruity vodka)
– 1/2 oz Creme de Cacao
– 1/4 oz Chambord raspberry liquor
– 1 egg white
– club soda to dilute to taste

With the exception of the egg white, put into a cocktail shaker with ice and mix and chill for 15-20 seconds. Add the egg white and shake for another 15-20 seconds. Taste. Top off with a bit of club soda to dilute, if necessary.

My wife, bless her little heart, is a spirits wuss, and immediately found the alcohol hit of the mango- infused grain alcohol too overpowering. I tempered it with about a half ounce of club soda but it’s still too much for her. Your mileage may vary.

How does it taste? Definitely a chocolate hit, no doubt, and the bitters added may add the purported complexity they can impart, but it was ‘ok’. I am not a certified mixologist by a long shot, but as a drink, it was passable. Room for improvement. Overall, not bad (in my view) for a first timer.
